The appearance of young women, the morality of mass culture and changing standards of sexual behaviour all caused considerable concern (and recurrent moral panics) in 1920s Britain. Here’s a fantastic example of an attempt to whip up public anxiety over the “scandal of stage fashions” from the front cover of the Pictorial Weekly in 1927.
